Back To Floorplan Dumfries and Galloway Council
Travelling round Dumfries and Gallowayyou’ll find lush green forests and sandy shores which have inspired some great people.
Our most famous residents have included national bard Robert Burns, pre-eminent physicist James Clerk Maxwell, and philosopher Thomas Carlyle. We’ve hosted Robert the Bruce and Robert Duval.
We have Britain’s highest village at Wanlockhead and Scotland’s most southerly point at the Mull of Galloway. We distil whisky at Bladnoch and brew beer in Castle Douglas. We’ve got Castle Douglas Food Town, Kirkcudbright Artists’ Town, and Wigtown Book Town. You can visit the Devil’s Beeftub near Moffat or the cradle of Scottish Christianity at Whithorn.
